Keeping up with current trends within peoples homes in the UK, the one room that is danger of becoming extinct is the dining room. It seems in modern times that family meals are not eaten together as much as in the past. Dining with your family is a great time to talk and catch up with the lives of those closest to you. One of the reasons dining rooms are a 'dying breed' is the shortage of space in the modern home. Also the different hours we all now have to sometimes work, meaning the old fashioned nine to five is less common, making it harder for the whole family to meet at a regular time.

The other trend changing with dining rooms is the furniture and the materials consumers are choosing. The modern era saw increased sales in glass tables, and leather or Pu chairs. Sideboards, display cabinets, and most other additional pieces have seen a decline in sales since glass became popular. Nowadays many of us are switching back to wood. The prices have really dropped over the last ten years especially with woods such as oak, and teak. Both have been at the forefront of the wood revival, and additional furniture sales have been on the increase in both wood types. The main reason for this is the cabinets, and units match up much better in wood opposed to glass.

The change back is a welcome one, with many feeling that glass was not as safe for children, and not as robust. I think many could agree with both of these points, but to keep wood sales on the rise, there must be a great selection ranging from traditional farm house sets, to ultra modern ranges. Wood does not look as modern as glass, so it will be a difficult task to compete on that scale. However like all good furniture it can transform a house into home, as natural materials bring you closer to nature, and essentially make your house feel more cosy. This is important as your house is where you come home to, so you can relax and unwind.

Nobody knows how long wood will be at the top of everybody's wish list, but while it is there will be some great furniture produced. With a new beautiful dining table, all that is left is to make a home cooked meal for you and your family to enjoy together.
